So, tonight I finished with the fuel system. Dropped the tank, cleaned it, replaced all remaining rubber hoses I did not replace before. Blew out the lines with my air compressor. Installed a new FPR and a new damper. Installed another new fuel filter just in case. Put 5 gallons of fresh mid grade i...

My plan of attack is as follows: Drain all fuel out of the tank Disconnect hard lines and blow out as much old gas as I can Replace regulator and damper Replace any existing rubber fuel line that I might have missed from under the car Replace the fuel filter (again, just in case there is some crap i...

The damper IS missing. Here's the story. The previous owner told me that at some point in the cars life, there was a fuel leak at "the fuel pressure regulator". So his mech replaced the "fuel pressure regulator" with this Bosch one for a BMW. After I took possession of the car, I...

Well at least your fuel pump is good! I would say he was on the money with that diagnostics, I would probably start with the fuel damper since it's missing in the first place, though I'm no expert on fuel systems, engines or cars... Yeah, I cannot find a reference to it at ANY parts shop here. Do y...

OK, I have good news and bad news. My friend Mike, who has damn near 35 years of hard core auto mechanics behind him, came out from Chicago to run the Rubicon Trail last week. We had some time to chill at the house and we worked on the Impulse. The good: My timing WAS in fact off by one tooth with t...

Well, I have not dumped the old gas yet. I might do that here soon though, as I am getting really tired of this problem and I am running out of things to try, short of replacing parts and spending money.

If you get stuck I have a spare known to be good Dizzy but it needs to be compared to make sure it is exactly the same, Our cars and the JDM versions may not be the exact same as the Impulse. If you wanted to make your car original I have all the EFI gear to put your car back to the way it should b...

DID YOU CHECK THE IAC HOSES? Thanks, wedge, yeah, nothing disconnected under the plenum. I also tried switching the plugs under there, the IAC and knock sensor plugs are the same. This changed nothing. I am still at a loss. I have yet to pull the rail and check the injectors. I do not get a CEL so ...

OK, can someone clear this up for me please? Here is a picture I found online of a JR engine bay from an '87 turboed car, just like mine. My car, is missing #2 in the picture. The previous owner took this part out because it was leaking, and he said this part was the OEM fuel pressure regulator. His...

I actually have two MAFs, and I have tried them both with no change.

Another thought I had, if it was a sensor giving me issues, I would think I would get a CEL with a trouble code, no?

Maybe it starts without an airflow meter signal then after a few seconds switches to the AFM and fails..
Are you talking about the MAF or the IAC?

OK, here's an update. All four cylinders read 120 for the compression test. I have jumpered the fuel pump to give constant 12v and this changed nothing. I have spark. I have fuel to the rail, and I believe my injectors are working (plugs wet after I pull them). I have oil pressure. Unless there is s...

OK, got everything put back together, I am 100% sure my timing is dead on, and it is pretty much doing the same thing. I crank, it starts and then dies right away. I am going to run a compression test next, just to cross it off the list, even though I do not think that is the issue. I am back to thi...
