Thomas,

If you want steampipe bends go and check out your local plumbing shop. I got all of mine from there. They have different sizes and 2 different radius bends. All come in 90 degrees so you will have to cut them to suit.

The flanges I made out of 12mm mild steel used the gaskets as templates and a hold saw to cut the holes out. Then put it on a surface grinder to smooth both sides out. Dam I miss my old work place having a enginneering shop on site was really handy.

Jig it up on a bench and weld rods to your flanges to the distance and position you want then make the pipe work to suit it.

Here is a link with the same steampipe bends that I have used. They already have the chamfer on then so it make them easy to weld.

Not sure about QLD, but in Melb you can get steam pipe bends in either 45 or 90deg angles from Reece Plumbing.

Bugle wrote:Bob I think 4ZE1's have the same port size. I used a 4ZE1 gasket on mine and the holes are slightly larger but I think that's to make up for the innacuracies in the standard ports from cyl to cyl so it doesn't block any off at all.
The E1's ports are bigger. I havent actually measured as my verniers have gone walkabout. The E1s valves are bigger too, not sure by how much.

E1 on top
D1 underneath.

Heres the C1 Na shuttle manifold on the left and the E1 on the right.

Ive got more pics of the E1 manifold stripped down. I will post em up in a tech thread soon. Unfortunately i dont have a Piazza manifold off a car to do a comparasion.

Cheers. Bob

Damn that's hot! Good reason to heat shield them in the Piazza engine bay.
Seen some vids of the fsae cars they go damn hard I thought the videos were sped up :)
I've got a game called Live For Speed which has one in it from this Canadian uni http://www.fsae.mcgill.ca/ gives some pretty good racing online with 15 of em.

I've read normal thin walled mild steel won't last very long used as a turbo manifold. The steam pipe has 3.5mm walls.

Should be a good comparison if we both end up with the same turbo but different design manifolds.

Yeah matt i'm going to bolt the current manifold to a bit of 1/2 inch steel then another bit where the turbo flange is and weld some rods so it ends up exactly the same. Also bolt the new down when welding pipes to it to avoid warping. I think I can get access to a mill to surface them like that.
How much did a plumbing shop charge for them? THey're supposed to come in 180's as well which would be better than welding one 90 and a small piece oef another one together. This is the data sheet for them http://www.onesteel.com/images/db_image ... ttings.pdf

Bob I know about the inlet ports being bigger, but what about the exhaust?

This is why you don't buy turbos you can't inspect in person.
Turbo looked ok when I first had a look but later had a closer look and noticed a slight chip with the turbine housing still on. Any kind of chip renders teh turbo useless so I pulled the housing off and this is what I found.. Wonder WTF came out of the engine the turbo was on to be able to do this!
The bearings are smooth i'll just swap them into the other turbo which has lots of bearing noise.

Jezuz, that turbo looks like its taken some gravel in. Bugle, i wonder if you could fit the ball bearing core to the steel T03 wheels....

Yeah probably can if the shaft dimensions are the same. Wonder if a steel turbine the same size exists though.

You mean the size of the compressor wheel? It wouldnt really matter if it was bigger, you could use the T03 comp cover and bolt it to the RB20 rear housing PROVIDED its the same bolt pattern. Im over simplyfying things here.

Nah the compressor isn't a problem it's aluminium.
I think the turbine is probably the smallest ever put on a T3 centre..

So bob they look about the same? Can't tell too well with all the carbon around the ports to where the gasket line is. Have to check them with the verniers.
