Its pretty easy.

Chock the rear wheels and Jack the front of the car up and put it on stands.

Jack up under the lower suspension arm on the side you checking until the suspension starts to rise. Be careful not to lift too hight as you will be lifting the car off the stands.

Lower the jack slowly. Watch the bottom of the spindle where the lower balljoint goes thru. The distance between the balljoint and the spindle should stay the same. When they are stuffed the upper arm will stop dropping and so will the spindle, but the lower arm with the ball joint in it will keep dropping. Ive got a good 5mm each side in mine.

How the double A-arm suspension works in a Piazza means that theres a constant pull on the lower ball joint at all times. IE: its trying to pop out of its socket/be pulled out of its socket, even with the car jacked up. It only when you push against the spring with the jack on the arm from undeneath that you are changing the point at which the weight of the vehicle is transfered to the spring. Your pushing directly rather than the axle of the spindle pulling the arm against the spring via the lower ball joint.

Cheers. Bob.

Another thing to keep an eye on is the rubber boot. If its cracked and dry its a fair bet that your balljoint will be on the way out soon, as the grease inside the joint drys up and we all know what metal-on-metal contact means. Failure.
