Dont speak to me about BMW's. I cracked a head on my E36 318i, got told i couldnt do the swap myself as bmw the smart cunts dont put timing marks on the harmonic balancer or on the cam and that it cant be done without specialist tools. I got quoted $2000 to get it fixed. FUCK THAT.

So we were going to throw an RB25DET in it instead, until we discovered 10L of Chemiweld does a wonderful job of making your car run for a week while you trade it in :supz:

i gave up on trying to fix the engine in the car, found an import place and just bough another complete engine for the car, hopefully will have it in by this weekend and then can strip the other motor down and see what happened. Thanks for all your idea's and help but i just got the shits and as my last ditch effort to get the car on the road with shitloads of chemi-weld didnt work i have had enough.
Got this new engine on tuesday, notice a few things differnet, the engine has a different intake manafold with a proper fuel rail that joins to the injectors with steel no more hoses, the harmoinic balancer looks different but dont know why yet and it has a 2nd oil sender just above the oil filter connection?
The only thing i am having trouble with is i cant get the auto spigot bearing out yet, tried to turn it out using vince grips, tried a slide hammer and still looking for something the right size so i can pack it with grease and try pressing it out

Yep been there, I got an angle grinder and cut two slots in the tube, parallel to the face of the crank, big enough to fit the legs of a puller into and stuck a socket up the hole to push against and out it came, if that aint clear and you want a picture of what i did let me know.

I think its 27 point something mm.

You want a bit of bar that size, pack the hole full of grease and then smack your bit of bar in. When its like half way out you might have to throw a bit more goo in.

Wear goggles, it can get messy.

They changed to the different inlet manifold and injectors in 1988 it seems, so you'd have one of the later engines.
Alternator uses a ribbed belt?

The oil pressure sender is for an analogue instrument cluster with oil pressure gauge. My engine has one too, not connected to anything, thought they must have just chucked them on every engine but perhaps mine is an import engine aswell.

yeah found abit of metal bar and put it in the drill and filed it down to the right size. It is bloody awsome how well that worked, just a few taps to get the air out and the thing just popped out, stuff using a slide hammer, i sat there for an hour doing that and got no where
Cheers guys

Way too technical for me, don't underestimate the stress relief value of a bit of destructive force. Ruining something beyond all recovery can be tremendously satisfying. Glad you got it out even if you were a bit delicate and girly about it. LOL

(Now the truth, I machined up a bar in my lathe to a precision fit to do exactly the same and used high pressure rated grease and still couldn't shift it, hence the destructo approach.) after getting it out I could see it was rusted in solid.

Sounds to me like someone needs a bigger hammer.

Get the old faithful mash hammer out.

Fark Bob, My hammer is bigger than your ego and it still didn't shift. Swinging that bastard I had my ring hanging out so far you could have parted off bits for washers.

The engine you have is the same as the JDM 4ZC1 i had in my Piazza. Check the turbo, should be oil only too.

Ribbed belts are apparently all you can get for the 4Z's now.
