So now onto sorting out a few niggles with the car, now I've spent some decent time driving it.

One thing that is annoying rather than a bad problem, it seems like there is a part-throttle hesitation, almost a miss at times, especially when required to add in just a touch more welly (like when going up a slight incline). Put in more welly and it clears and accelerates cleanly.

Plugs, leads, dizzy and rotor button all seem good (athough can't gaurantee) and the car has been serviced regularly, but I'm thinking perhaps the vacuum advance unit is not working 100%. I'm sort of a semi-competent home mechanic, but am a little confused how to test this theory, can anyone give me some pointers?

Any other possibilites/theories more than welcome too!

Can be a sticky throttle body spindle or a bit of wear is common. AFM flap is another thing to check. Vac advance easy enough to check. One other common thing is the actual throttle pedal pivot, if it gets a bit worn it can get sticky and it often gives the impression of a hesitation as it tilts over you can feel it going down with no engine response and a little bit more and it is all on.

Live with it for a week and give yourself enough time when you come up and we can go through a few bits and pieces to see if we can find whats up.

In case the thought ever crosses your mind don't waste money buying a Chiltons manual as they are crap, get on ebay and get a G200 one from the US they are cheap as chips and you just have to remember that they are LHD so the position of some things under the dash is different. Other than that no worries with them.

That would be awfully kind of you, again (what with free aircon parts and now a diagnostic session as well). Ok, I'll make sure I have some time to spend, sounds like you have some nice shiny things for me to admire while there anyway, which I would definitely like to check out.

Don't think it's the pedal pivot, as if you hold the throttle where it's hesitant, it stays that way (sort of surges then doesn't, surges again etc.). Will check the other suggestions if I get the chance before-hand, just to familiarise myself with what goes where before I pop over, if nothing else.
