Looks to me like youve got oil way too far forward for it to be the turbo.

Get some degreaser and go nuts dude. Put it up on ramps and investigate.

I might look into that turbo. US$100 is way cheap enough. I paid $250 for mine new. I was quoted $1100 for a new core with my housings and $2300 or so for a new turbo.

I am a bit dubious. Im still waiting for my Impulse factory manuals. Paid for them over 6 weeks ago. Not happy jan, im tipping i will never see them, i paid for air post.

Ok, so the piece of shit is staying. Got two weeks to paint it, assemble it and get it out of the garage. Parents bought a Mazda 3...

They were looking at getting a brand new Civic, they got a better deal on the Mazda 3 so bought that instead. Still, 25k on a brand new car is alot of dosh, I wouldnt park that on the street and offer refuge for a 3500 much-malinged shitbox.

Cars are like women, you can never win and you can never be happy...

After all the hard work i find out i had a bad batch of paint. Fucking excellent, what a waste of 6months. It doesnt get any better either, got under the car today to do a coolant change and, well, more headaches..

Power steering/steering rack leak. Fucked if i know where its coming from. Also has a suspected rear-main seal leak [oil all over the rear of the sump/gearbox], and add the "mystery" leak pointing in the turbo direction and ive got serious problems.

Image

Unfortunately ive got no money or time for bullshit like this, so dodgy RWC it is. Ive got no choice but to drive it farked paint and all. It might change towards the end of the year though, got abit of a "plan" happening. Basically, im looking at getting a rolling shell of Rodeobob [bob, couldnt be fucked writing you a PM so all the details are here], not caring one bit wether its an auto shell, or if it has no interior or what not. Looking at giving it a full-respray in 2pack, so far its out of Cosmo purple, Pewter [350Z grey/silver] or Shockwave [Falcon BF], no spoiler back etc, then transfering the running gear out of the red p.o.s into it. Around that time ill be replacing the turbo with either a T25G or RB20-T03, 3" exhaust and a front mounted cooler. My old shell will become my mates next project - hes looking at going either 4ZE1 turbo or SR20DET.

What happened to the paint? Still looks good in photos..
Power steering leak looks exactly like mine was, the pinion shaft seal.

Paint blistered up in a couple of spots, looks shagged in real life.

Ive got a spare rack but i cant be fucked putting it on, too much effort. Ill put up with it for now until the rebuild.

Well i hope they are coming to the party with another tin of paint.

Will be a can do on the shell. Ive got a couple here.

You want to get that thing down and give it a good tub up underneath. All that oil could be coming from the steering box. The half moon and rocker cover gasket can loose a fair bit too. So cant the distributor O-ring.

Go get it tubbed up, im thinking that the only RWC drama your going to have will be the steering leak. Possibly the turbo too.

Yeah i tried to tell them that [about the paint] but they said it could be anything including the prepwork [which it wasnt as the whole car was highfilled] to bad thinners [again, negative because i used three different batches]. Meh. For all that effort i shouldve gone for 2pack in the first place.

From what i can see its not the rocker cover gasket [changed that not long ago, pretty sure i sealed it right but itll be coming off again when i do the valve clearances] or the dizzy shaft seal [looks clean around it]. Oil is on the bottom of the gearbox and the sump gasket looks like its sealing, hence rear main. Got a few cans of degreaser so im going to proceed to go spastik, hopefully i can find that mystery leak [hoping its a rampant line of some sorts].
