4zc1 turbo mods

Post by sirloin005 »

Hi, I was wondering if there was anyplace to buy engine upgrades for the 4zc1. Please forgive me for asking a question whos answer might seem obvious or has been asked before but these cars are not that common and dont have a very large following so information is hard to get. I'm considering buying one just for fun on the streets but I'm just wondering on how much improvising is going to be needed to make her faster.

You can get home made T2-T3 flanged exhaust manifolds off Ebay made for Geminis occasionally which will fit the engine. That allows you to bolt on many off the shelf turbos but then you're on your own piping up the new turbo to the intake.
There's no aftermarket support for these cars unless the parts were made for Geminis and just happen to fit on a Piazza.

Definately buy one, they are alot of fun :supz:

As for aftermarket parts, depends on what you want out of the car. The engine itself is actually pretty common and are well known when it comes to whats needed to make it go fast. What do you want to spend and how fast do you want to go? If you willing to get an aftermarket ECU and have a custom turbo manifold made, theres no limit to what you can do.

theres good parts swapping from the 2.6 that are upgrades - larger runner intake manifold, bigger TB and MAF. aftermarket performance ignition coils, Magnecor wires, Fidanza flywheel are still available.

There is nothing you can do with the standard ECU, they don't have removable chips so best you go aftermarket ecu

Best ECU would be what your local tuners are able to tune. We've got a few local companies in Australia who make good ECU's but dunno if anyone over there would be familiar with them, except for maybe Motec but they're really expensive.
