sick of arsehole guests posting there shite

Post by graham »

is there no way we can arrange that 2 be a member of this site you have to pay a fee or something to stop the crap getting through by arseholes that register on here to post there shite im sure it wastes the site moderators time and effort getting rid of it, i mentioned it to wedgie when the site looked like closing but he informs me that its a ball-aching exercise and you need a philadelphia lawyer to figure it out, but we need to think of something to protect the site from all this bollox, if i wanted to look at shite porn id type in "shite porn" in my search box but when im on a piazza owners club site i want info about piazzas, any serious enthusiast would gladly pay a nominal fee im sure for the wealth of information availiable on here.

sorry chris but fuck em, if they want access to the wealth of knowledge aviliable on this site then i think its the way to go im happy to pay even when the site looked like it was on its arse a couple of months back i said to my dad (thats wedgenut by the way) id be happy to pay to keep it open maybe its because i come from a country that makes you pay v.a.t (our version of your g.s.t) to have a piss in a public loo, im used to paying for anything i get, it would stop all the shite and it would certanly sort out the enthusiests from the time wasters, even though i dont own a piazza yet ( they are like rocking horse shit in my country) i class myself as an enthusiest as i plan to have 1 as soon as i can find a straight 1 worth buying, i am a member of 2 u.k based car clubs and 1 motorbike club and i have to pay an annual fee for all three, im not talking about a fortune just enough to keep thse pricks off the site because those fuka's that are loading the site with porn and prescription drugs and fuk knows what else off the site becxause them scum bags wont pay money to spread there shite, it would perform 2 functions 1, it will clear out the time wasters and scammers and 2 it will pay for the up keep of the site, surly im not the only 1 that feels this way there are over 200 registered users there must be more than just me !!!!!!!!! :cwm21:

Like my mouthy son i have no problem contributing to keep the site running and free from space wasters. It only needs to be a measly dollar or two and they wouldn't bother with us, they only target free sites.

Wasn't the problem just with that section that had permission for guests to post? Fark cant remember which one it was.
You don't get too many spammers actually signing up then posting shit.

We have been getting a lot over the last week or two, mainly porn links and usually by guests but sometimes they sign up as wel. I have been deleting posts nearly every day and disabling quite a few sign ups. Hopefully if we keep on top of them they will get bored and go away.

Charging for signup may not be a great idea. It may deter some piazza owners from signing up, and at the moment we want to find as many owners as we possibly can!

im not suggesting you charge a fortune to be a member just a token gesture i dont think its unreasonable, it would ensure the life of the site and stop the scammers, at the end of the day someone has to foot the bill for the servers, site hosting, site management, etc its coming out of someones pocket and its for everyones benefit, maybe you should put it to a members vote and then we will see who is committed to keeping the site running, although i think the answers already there when you consider the lack of response from the members when the shit hit the fan a few months back, and the site lost the host. i realise there are some members who join to ask 1 question a year and stuff so its disadvantaging them to ask them to pay, so i understand there are 2 sides of the coin, somewhere in amoungst all of this there must be solution aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! moderaters............. time to have a drinking ........errrr i mean "thinking" session i think :3some:

you see, not everyone's gonna have a paypal account. and I a lot of paranoid people (especially the mechanically minded who know little about computers and internet) who dont want to use their credit card over the internet or even purchase anything online...

ok i can see that, i just think that as long as these arseholes have a way in to post this shite they will keep doing it, they have no life they are sad wee grey looking people who spend there lives glued to a keyboard and a screen, is there a way of blocking them without putting a charge on the site? or as wedgenut suggested a token payment of a dollar or two, (these dicks wont pay to post this crap) payable by cheque, if paypal is not availiable, or do you have access to western union money transfer or some similar system for moving cash around the country? if each member had to pay a one off payment to receive a password to post topics etc, not to view the site, JUST TO POST TOPICS then those who dont want to pay can view the entire site; f.a.q's etc how does the A.P.C do it ?

They're not people but computers that automatically find forums then sign up and spam shit. They've figured out how to read the code in the image when you sign up with OCR..

We used to have a system where all of the mods got an email when someone signed up and someone had to approve the new user before they could post I think that would be the best way since it's easy to pick a spammer by their profile.

I agree, I don't know what happened with that idea, did it ever actually get put in place? Here is a thought for discussion. Often we have asked people to fully complete their profile giving email address, town and country etc. If we could give read only access until they have done this, it may be too hard for their automated spam generators. I would also like to see a ban on websites being added to member profiles until they graduate from learner. After all, if they are not contibuting to our forum in some meaningful way do we want to know what their website is?

I have looked at a number of car forums and almost every one will allow free access to reading most of the topics but do not allow posts from non-members. To become a member you have to apply and await a response with authorisation.

I don't have the savvy to fix this but surely someone in our collection of piazza freaks has a degree in geek and can advise.

I'm over all these bloody porn links, pharmacy sites and the like.
