Yeah we did have that in place for a while back when we didnt allow anyone with under 100 posts or whatever to view the for sale sections.

You can't post as a guest here either, can only read the stuff. The spammers software automatically signs up then goes and gets the confirmation email. I think all it did before was rather than send the confirmation email to the registered user it sent it to mods.

Not quite right, we are getting posts from guests as well as sign ups, most often in the APC news catagory. I am doing a daily clean out by deleting the posts and killing those that do sign up as well. I can't find a way to stop the guests posting. Maybe Bob can

Oh yeah, that only happens in the news section i'll see if I can make it so guests can't post there.
Other sections where there's guest posts is where the user has been deleted

ok that news section no longer has guest access
There's no confirmation email thing setup coz the email doesn't work at the moment, that's what the SMTP error is every time you post or send a PM. So i'll see if i can work that out now

this all sounds familiar, we have done all this in the past and had problems .. Right now you can only post if you have filled out the form and you must confirm the code via your email.. I guess those new advertising programms can do those things but I dont think the solution is to charge people for using this.. Again please read the old posts regarding this subject long debates and some fights if i remember. This is what moderators are for, though bugles nor bob or wedgy are mods however if this is a problem maybe you guys should nominated one or two more mods to deal with this problem.

Yeha I just had to delete a fuckload of users and posts, I changed the thing now so that admins have to authorise users before they can post..

Forum has been really slow for the last day or so and i got bored waiting for it last night. I notice today another three porm spammers have signed up so i am going to delete them shortly. At least stopping them posting is a bonus.

Yeah got 6 emails today asking to authorise users..
Slightly annoying having to make sure they're spammers before deleting them!
If we could ban any email address ending in .info that'd be good

I don't fuck about with them, if someone wants to join up for real they would surely make contact of some kind. I look at their address and if it is anything.info or .RU I just delete them, a couple of ones I have not deleted have had oz addresses and haven't attached any website, they may just be browsers but I don't think they are spammers

yea it's easy to pick the spammers, just a pain in the arse
Lucky google mail groups emails with the same heading into one email with a number after it. It got up to something like 60 farken.

I think you can also ban multiply ip adress so *.ru and *.info. I am sure that would be possible.. But yeah like I said, if it gets to much you guys should nominate 1 or 2 more moderators who love to deal with this.
