Standard injector flow rates

Post by Piazza_man »

Hopefully an easy answer. Need to confirm the standard injector flow rate is 220cc. Is this correct?

It rings a bell with me too.
A bit larger should be okay.
Or should I say "put in bigger injectors for more speed (or power)... ". (I'm poking fun at others that make such claims {without other modifications}.)

Although my Motec is controlling the 440cc injectors that are on the car atm, mechanic was throwing up the idea of puting the standard ones back in to make sure it will pass emissions testing. Rodavo correctly pointed out that the supra injectors can be pegged back via the Motec to match the standard flow rate, but I'll check with the mechanic. Maybe he knows something I don't.

When closed loop (eg, oxygen sensor), it shouldn't matter.

Increasing injector size should make no difference to the mixture since the feedback (O2 sensor etc) will cause the injectors to throttle back.

The problem with bigger injectors is that that the EMS may not be able to adjust finely enough for smooth idle or small changes.

Bigger injectors (or increased fuel pressure) should likewise NOT cause any advantage (increased power etc) unless original injectors were too small (insufficient fuel) or if openings are by mapping only (ie, no map variation as adjusted by O2 or combustion sensors) in which case a 10% to 20% increase may be beneficial (as per richer racing mixtures).

Mind you, I haven't dealt with EFI for years so I may be incorrect. But not as incorrect as those that blindly state to increase jet or injector size or fuel pressure to get more power.
