Hoping someone can help me......

My piazza had bubbles in the water and was starting to get water in the oil....so off came the head to replace the head gasket.

Head gasket seemed fine and after installing a new one and putting it all back together, the car will not idle but runs perfectly if you use the throttle to keep the engine running above idle. As soon as you get off the throttle the engine dies. I have spent so long trying to work out why, not sure if it is an electrical problem or an air leak....does anyone have any ideas. I am sure that evrything went back the way it came off, since the intake came off with the head so the wiring and hoses had to be disconnected on the intake side. I am lost for ideas.....

Have you flushed all fluids? Oil and Fuel. Dont know if that helps but it is always worth a try. After you flush it use Engine Flush to clean the engine throu.

Sorry yeah what I just said doesnt make much sense since it is running if you give throttle right?

Hmm Have you checked the throttle postition also the airtake sensor if it is still right in place.

Also have you titend all head bolts at 10 clicks? etc etc.

It may get air through the head gasket still because you have titend the head bolts wrong. I belive they need to be at 10 or 13.. Hmm sorry I forgot. It is in the manual but steve has it know. Better ask him

Found the problem.......one of the hoses was off on the underside of the intake manifold. Connected it up and started first go. The bubbles are also gone from the water so I think the original problem was that the head bolts were not done up correctly by whoever did the head gasket last. Anyway, car is running great. Thanks for your help Chris.

That problem sounds familiar. I had the same problem with the underside hose on the plenum. I was told by my mechanic that it was an intake gasket as he ran the standard gas check for vacuum leak. He suggested that the gasket was put on back to front or upside down which confused the hell out of me as the gasket will only fit on one way.
Eventually after removing the manifold plenum I realised that this was the problem. Put the hose on and away I went.
