What should i do with my wheels guys

Post by Rodeobob »

As always theres a little story to tell.

I picked up my two new rear tyres for the Piazza today. Yippie, 195/55/15" Toyo's for $128.50 off eBay brand new never been on rims.
I was going to use them on the front and sell the two 50 series tyres i got for the front to my uncle to use on his rag top Peugeot. They are Pirelli P6000's 195/50/15" a guy had them in the trading post and i got em for $140 same deal brand new never been on rims. They are fitted to the mags and on the Piazza at the moment.
Reason being was that my wheels are 7" wide and the 195's are a little narrow for the rims.
I needed 195's on the front or else the wheels would rub the shockers jacked up in the air, so on the front thats about all i could use, but on the back i rekon the fatter the better. In an ideal world i like a set of 215/50 or even 225/50 if they will fit.

I won a set of alloy 15x6" 5 stud Audi (90's A4???) on ebay a few weeks back for $40. Why??? Because 2 of the rims had tyres 205/60 Contenital's, i thought the rims were steel till my mate who picked em up rang me and told me what a bargain id got. I bought em for the tyres and i was thinking of fitting these on the back of the Piazza, one is about 50% and the other is about 80% but i was a bit worried about the aspect ratio differences with having the 50's on the front. I can use these tyres on the mags for my ute anyway seeing as i stuffed one tyre in the big jack knife incident, so either way they wont be wasted. I will have to check, the tyres i had on the mags for my ute came off a set of alloys i bought to fit a gemini/piazza but when i tried them on the car not only was offset wrong but the aspect ratio was too high and the tyres fouled on the bumper on the front. I will have to check as i cant remember if they were 60's or 65's, i do know they were 195 wide.

I figure that for less than $300 ive got 4 brand new tyres why not go with that, they might be a little narrow but with the lower profile they will grip better than the std alloys with new tyres.

What do you guy rekon??? Go with it or save up for a losh out on some fatter rear tyres???

Thats the first bit.

The second is, the guy i got the rims off had a half arsed go at polishing them and two of the rims are damaged with bad gutter rash so much so that one rim is slightly dented. Its illegal to weld alloy rims so to fix the two skuffed ones they are realy going to have to be painted. I do know of a joint that will weld them but i was told that once they are polished you will still be able to make out where the repair weld was done.
So i could clean them up and paint them myself. Ive got the number for a bloke who can do them up and put some super trick Chrome paint coating one them (doesnt suit the style of wheel i rekon) or i could get them done in a silver alloy wheel paint buy a pro.

I was thinking i should paint them white, what do you guys rekon??? I could do it myself and that would cut the cost. White because i rekon it would look right, suits the type of wheel. The wheel is the right style/period for the car.
Whats your thoughts guys????
Keep in mind it will be lowered a little. Might be one inch could be two, i havent measured the height the white car is sitting at.

Heres a pic, can anyone photo chop???? On its guts with white rims pretty pretty please.

Powder coating may be a more robust finish than paint unless you put on a good clear coat to protect it. We have companies over hear that specialise in re furbishing alloy wheels and I've seen some of the repairs and it is very difficult to detect when they are finished, you must have someone over there doing it as well.
