pinched e-brake cable

Post by Impulsive Yank »

got into the rear today & discovered the drivers side(pass side for y'all) e-brake cable had been tucked into the coil & getting all sorts of squished. ever see that before?

I just wonder how the hell that could happen, as it took major wedging & prying to get the cable out & back under the spring seat where it belongs.

on that same side the upper balljoint is fuct & causing the front wheel to tilt in & the front end to sit pretty low. with the back a bit jacked up because the cable in the coil lifting 1/2" it looked all cattywompus & lopsided. i thought the whole chassis was tweaked from the twit i bought it from crashing into a curb or landing hard from some Dukes of Hazzard type shit...

sweet relief!

Someone must have tried escaping a carpark without paying and got the cable caught on sumthin to drive it up into the spring, very strange. I did like the expression "cattywompus" I'm sure that is a protected species in Australia, they will have the tribes hunting you down to insert a dingo in your fundament :finga:

Mine was pinched but from the car sitting on the ground I think as the brake backing plates were bent I guess it's had its wheels stolen at some point maybe. Had to modify a Commodore cable to fit as Piazza ones aren't too easy to find!

I can't see how it could get into the spring if it's being held properly in its brackets..

There is a joint here in Melb that will custom make you any cable you need. Cant remeber their name. A guy at work got new Park Brake cables made for his 280Z, they got em right on the second try. lol. They make em up with some of the bits from the old cables.

Piazza is not the only one. Try getting a throttle cable for an N13 Pulsar/ LD Astra New. Youd think someone would make them they are a pretty popular car. The outer casings break on them, then they fray and eventually break. On the 1.8L MPI its most common 1.6L TBI its not as common and yep they are different cables.

Don't know about over there but almost any motorbike shop over here will make you up a cable of any type. They usually carry a selection of ferrules and sleeves, nipples and adjusters and three or four different thicknesses of inner and outer bowden cable. Brake and clutch specialists usually have the heavy duty stuff for clutch cables which is the same weight as handbrake cable. I usually just buy lengths of cable from them and make my own to suit anyway as it is cheaper and you don't have to deal with the spotty geek at the dealership who knows fuck all anyway.

Gee I resent that, I always ask them to say BAA if they agree so it is always consensual and always female, nothing strange or perverse about that! :finga:

I don't bag the aussies, i have just spent the best part of a week with a bloke from Melbourne helping him strip some motorbikes for export to OZ and we got along great. I just had to count my spanners afterwards and make sure I still had my wallet before he got on the plane.

Yeah and i bet while you were doing that you were drinking the beer that he bought.

Damn you kiwis are un trusting and thats just plain australian.

BTW guys good old Rolph is more pom than aussie now, he had more to do with tying down kangroos and using his third leg called "jake the peg" than he ever did with dingoes.

Well Bob you might be a hell of a good bloke but this joker didn't buy any beer, in fact he bummed some money off me because he had run out of smokes and had no cash on him. Which he forgot to pay back and didn't even offer me one of HIS smokes he bought with MY money. My city directory he borrowed is now sitting on a mantlepiece in Melbourne, its no use to him over there so i can only assume he forgot he had it.......or did his convict origins take over....the light fingered git! The next time I see him I will extract a terrible revenge, in fact I still have some engines here I am packing for him, a couple of bags of flour in the carton will get him some attention from the rubber glove boys. That'll teach him. :finga:
