Alternator woes...

Post by GeminiCoupe »

Basically, my alternator is fucked [pardon the french] and in need of a rebuild. What im after is some basic information [im yet to have a proper look at it]. Ie Brand, type/model number, replacement reg's/part numbers, rebuild kits etc. That, or an alternative alternator off another engine that fits/suits.

I would guess from a rodeo. Best would be if you take it out and go to the wreckers and see if you find one that is similar. Or if you find a part number I can have a look for you.

If anything i feel the 4ZD1 alternator would be similar, its just i havent had the chance to have a proper look at it as yet. I thing Bob [Rodeobob] found an alternative, just hoping he stumbles accross this.

Theres two different block to alternator brackets ive found and two different plug setups.

From so far as i can tell the alternators that go on the bracket as found on the piazza motor all have a round green electrical plug that plugs in the back of the alternator. Plug and bracket matches are;
2.6L Rodeo (possibly pre 94)
2L shuttle
i will stick my head under the bonnet of my ute and check the 2.3L.

Cheers. Bob

P.S. Around the back of Epping Plaza, when you drive out toward Lalor-Mill Pk, you look in the back of a wreckers. Up on top of the heap in pride of place is a Late KB rodeo dualcab. Go check it out Nick, it could have an alternator.

Also RB Gemini looks to have the same one, dunno if it would actually be the same though as in charging capacity? Shitloads of RB's at wreckers though if it works.

Ill definately have a look at the RB one next time im at pick a part, i know 100% for certain that you can get regs and other bits and pieces to rebuild them as we did my aunties one a few years ago. Ill see if i can find anything usefull, including part numbers etc.

You know where the loading dock for safeway is. On the south side of the shopping centre. Theres a road that goes around the shopping centre and if your heading east it doglegs and when it does your looking in the back of a wreckers.

Cheers, Bob.

OOOppps i was sent to Epping tonight the wrecker is all gone. lol. It was on High st just before the entry to the shopping centre.

Theres a Rodeo/holden wrecker in Dandenong, hes got two piazzas there, i didnt like his prices much, on any bits for anything.
I know where it is but im hopeless with names. I think its on Hammond rd.
You could try Comeback, they are a bloody rip off too. The guy there told me that they sent all their old Rodeo and Shuttle stuff to a guy down mornington way, worth a try.

But then again how expensive would it be to get the Piazza alternator done up???

Cheers. Bob.

It shouldnt really cost more then $150, depends on what parts cost. I had the Valeo alternator rebuilt in the BMW including a new reg and a new Diode set and it cost that much, i just need to get off my ass and pull the alternator out so i can get a good look.

Im starting with the interior first [yes im an idiot] so i wont be under the bonnet until next week.

When my alternator went they replaced it with one from a nissan. I still think (6 years ago) the nissan part number is on it.
