Aussie Locker

www.offroadlockers.com

there is at least 1 test unit being used right now in a 10 bolt front diff on a 4x4. this will also fit the Piazza rear. if you have factory LSD would have to switch to an open carrier to install.

i corresponded with the engineering dept about using it in a rwd car. they say there are a lot of people running them in Volvos (Dana 30) in European road racing and a steady demand for more.

did some searching on US Volvo boards, didn't find anything about the Aussie unit but lots of people using Lok-Rights or Detroits- same type of locker. but supposedly the clunking and twitchy off-throttle traits of the other makes have been greatly minimized or cured with the Aussie part.

a review from a Toyota offroader but with some feedback on street manners:

biggest thing to consider with these diffs in a turn the inside wheel becomes the power wheel vs. the outside wheel in a conventional open or lsd. from the Volvo crowd one guy talked about basically being able to do a standing 180* turn if he wanted to. that sounds like fun.

so they need people in on it before they will do a run. I think 50 is the minimum. they retail for $400 but for the pre buy it is $325 with $200 deposit. maybe even drop a few extra $ for an organized group purchase.

for the record I don't have anything to do with this other than trying to spread the word.

How's that work? Uses the thrust from the cross pin to separate the halves and lock the axles together? Then on trailing throttle it just completely disconnects drive to the axles from the carrier?

i don't believe it completely disengages, hence the bias springs.
